Philippe Leduc (1941-2014), President of the Société Wilhelm Furtwängler

A MAN IS NEVER ENTIRELY DEAD WHILE THERE REMAINS SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS HIS NAME

Philippe Leduc passed away during the morning of 27 September, a few weeks short of his seventy-third birthday, finally succumbing to the illness which he had fought for most of the past year.

He was President of the Société Wilhelm Furtwängler for over twenty years.  He skilfully consolidated the society’s reputation, managed its activities and strengthened its links with sister societies in other countries, and was also close to Elisabeth Furtwängler and her family, so that the SWF became essential to everything concerned with the great conductor.

An eminent professor of electrobiochemistry in Paris and an amateur musician, he captivated everyone who came into contact with him by his kindness, his scientific rectitude and his rare gift for listening to others. We will miss him.

On behalf of all members, the SWF management committee extends its most sincere sympathy to all those close to Philippe, and particularly to his children.

A tribute will be paid to him at the General Assembly on 25 October, where we hope to see many of you.
